Functional(?) Mini Slide Rule Tie Clip

As the middle part and the clear slider all move, I assume this tiny slide rule tie clip can actually function as a slide rule.

Adorable. My Grand dad was an engineer and had several. If he was still with us I would have LOVED to give him a tie pin like that

My uncle, a mechanical engineer, taught me to use a slide rule when I was in high school, but I doubt I'd remember a thing about it now.

I absolutely love that tie clasp. It would be great for a math teacher.
I showed a slide rule to my nephews and they said (I think it is an "abcusses"
made by the "anicent" Chinese.).

Vietnam Vets is coming tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon to take away about seven boxes of old clothes. I have prepared a small box of other household items and the slide rule tie clasp will go in there if no one wants it. Anyone want to chase down an old math teacher or engineer? Try to sell it on eBay? I'll pay the postage. Thanks.

Morgen94, my DH would like to have it, BUT if any other people want it please put DH at the bottom of the list. DH would keep it for himself (his father was a mechanical engineer). DH has inherited his father's slide rules (including the one his father taught him how to use when DH was a young boy).

 

Moreotherstuff, would you please alert me when you put it on eBay. Maybe I can surprise DH with it.

 

I don't mind if Morgen sends it to you, as you have a specific use for it. I think it is a clever novelty.

I would like to throw my hat in the pot too, I will even pay for it. I have a shelf where I keep all my Granddad's items from the past, even his Engineer lic.
I had his slide ruler in its case but sent it to my brother as a gift.

I am sorry that I was busy all day and just now sat down to relax and look at the forums here. The first thing I see I must do is apologize to everyone for the confusion I seem to have caused. I should have said in my OP that I was giving away the tie clasp, but I didn't think about that because I posted it in the Give Aways forum. Next time I will try to remember to specify that I am giving the item away.

When no one asked for the tie clasp, I assumed you were all just being kind in saying nice things about it, but didn't want it. That was why when I asked yesterday if anyone at all wanted it before I gave it to the Vietnam Vets, I jumped on the first request for it. As I already promised it to the first respondent, moreotherstuff, I feel obligated to follow through, otherwise I would have gladly drawn a name from the requests. So sorry for the confusion...but I will be more specific next time.

 

I didn't realize you were giving it away until I read your post (#10) just before the one I added. It's such a cool item, I think everyone (myself included) missed the category and thought you were looking for additional info.

If it's in the mail, thank you very much and I will be happy to keep the others informed. If it has not yet been mailed, you can feel free to pull a name from a hat. Just see that my name is in there (maybe twice).

Giving something away certainly should not be a cause of stress.

I have a house FULL of things I need to clean out of here and no longer want to sell online, so I look forward to giving away these additional (modest) items to other forum members. None of them compare to the lovely antique things I see here, but...
