    Hi all
I've never had a clock in the house, neither on the table nor on the wall... because it has a nice appearance, I'd like to use it, but it doesn't run. my husband thinks it's not such a good brand and not old enough and he can fix it. but he has never repaired a clock. should I have it repaired or is this clock a bit older and more valuable than he thinks?

Is this clok made before ww2? Is it original or replica? Does have any collection value?

    Thanks in advance and greetings

Hi Hi, you can still edit your title to change the first name to Friedrich.
Friedrich Mauthe was a German clockmaker, hence the name Friedrich. Frédéric is a French variation on Friedrich.
After Friedrich's death the company continued to manufacture clocks.

    Ditto.
Not a top brand. I suggest trying to find someone through a neighbourhood app.

It was made in a traditional style, but it is not a replica. Some styles just stay popular for a long time.

I think so too. but how do i tell him not to touch that clock.. he has so little to do these days because of the lokdown. we can't go out, meet with friends, can't sport.. it's like taking his toys away...:zombie:

I think ill let him try. Its not a top brand after all
    ....

Yes, these are difficult times, and everyone needs some diversion.
He can't do much harm, it doesn't work now anyway. And who knows, you might end up with a nice clock that works!
Maybe he can put that one foot back in place too, and polish the wood.

Mauthe made perfectly good clocks - this one looks to be 1920's-30's, but is a smaller balance wheel escapement type seen in alarm clocks, not a pendulum type which is easier for a novice to work on. Getting old clocks to work is generally not super hard, but there are things that must be done correctly (this comes with experience) - in short, movements needs to be cleaned, oiled with clock oil, put 'in beat' (pendulum type). At the end of the day, everything could have been done right, but the darn clock just doesn't want to run right - this is why folks who may be very handy with mechanical things end up taking their clocks to a clock repairman who has that ever important thing . . . experience. Good luck with your gem !

    so true:joyful:
luckily he didn't ask for the clock today and he doesn't have the right screwdriver to open it all the way. he was going to get a set from gamna but because of the lokdown this didn't work out:joyful:. meanwhile I put the clock in a box and removed it from view.:angelic: and with a bit of luck I hope he forgets that he wanted to fix the clock .;)

    Sounds like a familiar tactic.:angelic:
Although I usually do that with items that are purely decorative but get used anyway. Or worse, knocked over while fixing some appliance that shouldn't be anywhere near art.:arghh:
Not everything in the house is utilitarian!!!:banghead:
And would you believe, my husband has a degree in fine arts.:jawdrop:
