French Table?

Hi, can anyone give me any history on this table? I know it is for sure over 100 years old because of family history. Someone told me it maybe a mid 19th century French piece. Any Ideas?

 

Is the marble original? (To the best of your knowledge?)

Me too. It's a bit distracting. And the proportion seems off.

As far as we know it is, it’s been on there for at least a hundred years, or so I am told.

Would think 1870s-80s. Could very well be European in origin.

 

Possibly German instead of French.

 

I would think a bit earlier, 1860s or 70s; possibly even 1850s. No reason to believe that the marble isn’t original. It’s been placed a bit carelessly in the photo, but the overhang appears to be within normal parameters.

Would agree on the European origins; I’ve never seen one quite like it here in the US Midwest. Great craftsmanship on the feet!

 

Fashion & trends aside,for a piece of 'brown furniture' this is quite nice.Bit more craftsmanship than a plywood & fiberglass hunk of MCM (and I do love our spaceage).

 

Any idea of monetary value for a table like this?

 

that's a nice slab of marble.......... but..

value is just a guess as we don't know where u r , how you plan to sell it, what the market is in your area , and even then.... it's pick up only , cuz u ain't wanting to ship this pig...

you'll have to scour the web and catalogs for similar ones hat have sold in the past 6 or so years ...to get a ballpark..
