Hello everyone! I'm trying to find out more about this plate. The price sticker said it was Breton. As best I can translate it says something about a dog gnawing on a bone. It measures 8 1/4" across and is made of redware. It is marked with two initials on the back that I think are an intertwined CA. Any help regarding age, manufacturer, or where produced would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

    Maybe Alcide Chaumeil?

    Don,
Late to the game, but, yes...the piece was made by Alcide Chaumeil. Check out a book written on CA by Millicent Mali for more info. Ms. Mali searched for many years to unlock the mystery of the CA mark and finally cracked the code!
Apparently, the Chaumeil family was never aware of the souvenir ware he produced. Most production by CA was higher-end dinnerware.

Chaumeil, in Paris before and after 1900, likely made "golden dog" souvenir pieces for the celebration of the 3ooth anniversary of Quebec. I have read they were sold at the Frontenac Hotel gift shop in Quebec City.

    Great find!

Thank you, faience! And welcome! After considerable debate I finally decided to sell this plate. I collect Limoges and some Sarreguemines but just didn't have the space to start another collection. I still have mixed feelings about selling it.
