So, I came across this necklace here for $3 at a local yard sale. I thought it looked strikingly like something Miriam Haskell would have produced back in the 30’s. And as it is unsigned, and I also found some wedding cake glass earrings signed Miriam Haskell, I figured the $5 I spent for them wasn’t unreasonable a’Tall. My question is, do you think this is an actual frank hess for Miriam Haskell necklace?

Wow it looks "never worn" is that wool yarn to go around the neck?

Couldn’t say for sure. How would one check for that?

Gosh, and to me it looks like 1990s gift-shop resort-wear... but I'm NO expert in this area...
This looks like your Etsy listing for $800+?
Vintage Unsigned 1930s Frank Hess for Miriam Haskell Purple | Etsy
If so, it seems you've already decided that it is FH for MH, since you advertise it as such.
The listing also states unequivocally that it's on silk cord... but it looks like wool to me. Silk cording should have just a bit of a sheen and doesn't tend to get the type of "fuzzies" that your cording appears to have.
EDIT: The listing states "tested purple Bakelite accents"... what testing method was used? I'm very surprised that any of the bits are Bakelite, they just don't look like it.

I agree this looks newer, as in 1990s. It is an interesting piece, but almost certainly not Miriam Haskell.

I have never seen nor can I find that type of clasp having been used by Miriam Haskell.

As above. Yours is more elaborate than most. And appears to be in as new condition.

A loop-over-button style of clasp on an FH for MH bracelet:
(Photo from MorningGloryJewelry dot com. Note the woven silk cording... it's nothing like OP's cording. I haven't found any examples of MH stuff with cording/yarnwork like OP's piece.)

I'm in agreement with 90s cruise gift shop.

Well, despite OP not commenting here, Antiquers tells us that he/she DID check in and see our comments. The Etsy listing mentioned in my first post above is now "unavailable" and so it also seems that he/she took our opinions seriously. :)

Well, yes, of course I took what you said seriously, as I’ve no desire to overcharge for an item that you say is not what I thought it was…I appreciate your help. Cheers.

And just because I didn’t respond right away means nothing. People do have other things that are more pressing. I hope that you’re not attempting to, I don’t know, shame me for something? I asked a reasonable question, got a reasonable answer, and corrected the situation. I believe you when you say you know more about costume jewelry than I. <shrug> is there anything left to say in regards to this? I don’t think so, but maybe you do.

The reason that some have made comments is not that you didn’t know what you had. It’s that you listed an inexpensive tourist piece of jewelry as something it wasn’t for a lot of money. The lesson to be learned is not that anyone is expected to know everything. None of us do but one should never list an item with attribution before confirming what it is.

Cool. Shame away. Thanks for your attempts to ridicule and publicly shame a guy. And do you know this is tourist trash? Where does one look to find trash beyond the obvious forum?

Or maybe the true lesson here is that one might mistake Miriam Haskell early works for tourist trash. It’s all about design, I suppose. Thanks for the clarity.

You asked for advice from people who know their stuff. We've all said it's not Haskell and is basically cruise type jewellery. If you didn't want the truth, you should nnot have asked. No one is "shaming" you. Far better to find out now than when some poor sod buys the thing and complains.
