Good Sunday morning! I have this framed portrait that I could use a little help with. Like how old it is and is it a colored photograph? It's so hard to get a good shot without glare from the glass. The gold is painted on the reverse. The wine background is velvet. The frame is 11" x 13". Thanks for taking a look.

Oops, sorry. I'm actually not sure what it is exactly. Thanks for tagging them for me.

That looks decorative. Have you done a Google Image search to see if you can identify the original Victorian portrait? And would you be kind enough to post a photograph of the back?

Thanks for the suggestion. I just did. Came up with similar pictures all around 1850s or so.

The frame looks rather much like one made to appear old, but perhaps came from a home decorating store. Just my opinion. We need to see the back of it too.

The style is 1840s. Not sure if it is Victoria, though.
Nor is it clear what the medium is. It looks a little fuzzy, which may indicate it is a reproduction of some sort, or maybe just interference from the glass.

Similar. But I think this one has less of a chin.

The frame is older than I expected and may harken back to the 1950s, from a google search on the JUSTUS frame shop.

So frame is pre-1963. Company was around in the 1950s; I'd think late 1950s/early 1960s about right.

Is that a wood frame? I ask because the frame may be a resin material..?
    Perhaps like scirocco? (sp?)

The picture in the center looks like a color photograph to me..

I would certainly think it was a reproduction.

Her daughters were beautiful. Pretty sure the frame is wood. looks like wood grain on the sides and a damaged corner. So, reproduction color photo, probably from the 1950s. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

The only way you'll know for sure is to open it up. But, if it's behind glass, unlikely to be an oil painting.

JMHO. I wouldn't open. either you keep it or when selling let it to the buyer to decide. you have a precise enough timespan for the age.
we learnt to reverse paint like that in school in the 1970s.

I never open pictures when they have the original backing. It's always so tempting though. Lol.

    Thanks again...Dale
