Hi everyone! I didn't think I'd get to post again so soon, but I had a great day hunting (many stores, in fact I ended up driving almost 200 miles today...). I'm pretty nuts about silver, but don't worry too much about me because I find a lot of other items I resell along the way. But by far silver is my dessert.

I won't bore you with the details of the trip, but it involved a lot of careful looking on shelves/bags/bins and boxes today to come up with this little pile. That's what makes it so fun for me, it's not always easy but it's always rewarding when I find something. Today was an exceptional day in my quest to find goodies. I hope you enjoy the photos, everything in the picture cost approximately $13 total. Sterling weight is around 350 grams with the red glass removed on the item on the left.

Makes me think of the Little Drummer Boy.
Maybe spare a thought for all kid soldiers, anywhere, anytime.

Good job, Nate, but 200 miles worth of gas is an awful lot to spend, no?

Is that third item a belt buckle or a pin?

    Bakersgma,

It's definitely a lot to drive, but not a lot to spend, and here is why:

I'm going to all these thrift stores to resell, and I file a schedule C (business sales) for the stuff I do online. When I drive, I get to deduct about 50 cents for every mile that I drive from what I owe in taxes. My car is SUPER efficient on gas (about 40 miles per gallon) so I effectively make money by driving.

In addition to the silver I found today, I made purchases of a bunch of other stuff that I'll make a profit on, so the silver is just a bonus for the trip.

Forgot to answer the second part; it's a belt buckle.

I agree, it's unique to me (floral pattern on a belt buckle??). I found that one today in a bag with a couple items priced at $3. I had to twist the belt buckle around while being careful to not break the clear baggy it was in to find the 925 mark. It clearly hadn't been polished in a LONG time as it looked very yellow at first glance.

I recently sold that same Blackington Drum this past year. Found it at a local thrift myself for $2.99.

I noticed it seems to sell for a good price, do you mind sharing what you sold it for?

I get way too excited, because it’s like a competition for me. I always wonder how long an item was in that store in plain view before I spotted it, how many people looked at it or even picked it up before I did? It’s just plain fun to have a hobby that requires some knowledge and a bit of skill to pull off.

Congrats on such a nice haul!
The thrifts in my area seem to know their sterling. In twenty years of collecting, I've only come across sterling twice (not including little jewelry bits).

Bluumz - Ditto! Have occasionally found some pieces of silverplate, that were quite extraordinary however. :) I'll take them! I don't sell!

I think the reason is that International based this pattern (called Royal Danish) on real Scandinavian silver patterns!
