Fornasetti tray or ashtray?

Picked up this tray on flea market today. It just caught my attention because of the taped over gold signature on the back.
Could someone tell me what is this signature about. I see these trays / ashtrays go for descent amount on fleabay.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. This item is just not my usual cup of tea.

 

Ashtray according to this. Don't think descriptor much matters; a collector will find it.

Amazing how much they want for this piece. Maybe I underestimated ashtray market. However that one doesn't have signature and this is my main question. Who signed it and why? Is this factory signature or something that was added later?

 

It is not the ashtray market, but the Fornasetti collectors who drive the prices.

I don't think you'll ever be able to discover who wrote on piece of adhesive tape and affixed it to bottom of your piece. I wouldn't consider it "signed." Appears to be two words repeated and then "Haviland." IMO has no impact on value.

There's a lot of stuff out there signed Sudwick Haviland, but I can't find out who it is. Yes, this was added later. It looks like tape. As Debora noted, the first name is repeated.

I removed part of the tape and the signature is on the item itself, not on the tape

 

Would you be kind enough to post a photograph with the tape removed?
