What’s that blank texture on the back of the handles? Was there supposed to be marks?

 

Are my eyes deceiving me? It looks like there are marks especially in the second picture, like a string of writing, that are obscured by the texture. Maybe seconds that a factory didn't want to sell as first quality?

 

It’s hard to see underneath the texture. There may be something there.

 

Haven't seen an "eradication" like these have before, but it does look like the mark is still partially visible. Can you take a good picture of the handle design? Might be able to identify from that.

Well, the closest I could find is an unnamed pattern issued with the backstamp Garwood Silver Plate. Found in Davis and Diebel's "Unknown, Lesser Known and No Trademarks" section. No date and no further information about who Garwood Silver Plate was. Sorry to get your hopes up.
