Oops ... Sorry not sure what went wrong but this little vase apparently was made by frenchman Jac Galland sometime before 1921. But he is a noted stained glass worker - so what is he doing producing a ceramic piece? Can anyone give me a clue? I have posted this on the other European forums but I got little response. So what do you reckon?

I suppose it sort of makes sense when ceramic glazes and glass glazes are similar in certain ways. Also, his father Pierre Victor was a well known artist in the Paris scene, and was apparently a good tutor at one of the big Paris 'ecoles' - Jac being one of his students may well have played with ceramics there. But who taught him?

I wonder if "Vitreaux" in this instance means "glaze"?

    It's a beautiful vase.

Vitre is glass, vitreaux is window.

Reminds me of the glaze on Monterey Jade, although obviously not.

    Same roots, yes. Latin. Vitrum.
