It is quite large I would say 24" tall x 20" in the image area. Is anyone buying these anymore? Oil on canvas. Just took a quick shot as I was leaving. PXL_20250313_164850379_copy_1701x3024.jpg

She's great! What a really fine example. They did a very nice job on her face and even though the hand is too small, it's done well.

I just can't see the majority of these up in someones house , who's not family !

    There are exceptions

Hmm I see them in homes of people into dark aesthetics, but that's a niche market.

At our estate sales, we call them 'instant relatives' :D

She's handsome, with great style, and love that chair.

I had friends who purchased an "ancestor". We're lucky to have a real one - hubby's g-g-g-grandfather.

I have a gouache my Dad had made of his mother from an old photo..... it's huge, and while it's on the wall..... it's behind a door....
    just not my thing..
My daughter will get it one day....... if it's her thing..

One of my cousins has two oil portraits of our g-g-grandparents. They were meant to pass down the female line, from my grandmother to my mother to me, but my uncle got in first. My mother didn't want to make a fuss. Ah well....
I told my cousin that they needed to be relined because they are in bad shape, but she hasn't had it done. They were fine when they were in my grandparent's house.:(

When we moved into the 1850 family home, Jon's ancestor was hanging in the dark hallway upstairs. The paint was 'cupping'. Fortunately, there's a local woman who did the restoration of the Winslow Homer murals at Bowdoin College (hubby is third generation graduate) so she restored it for us and Mason Richards now hangs in our dining room. He's very handsome.
