Featured Folk Art Box

    Wondering about the what's, where's and when's of this painted box. Size of a shoebox. Has tray inside full of weimar notes. decorations familiar to anyone? don't think the ad in the frame is relevant.

    Many of those notes look like Notgeld, regional state currency, although common some can be more interesting than Weimar Republic paper money.

    My first thought was an early ballot box but, i see no slot for ballots so that's out!:confused:

    IMHO, everything is relevant in identifying and dating. Box with patriotic motif, pre-World War II German money and an 1940ish ad. Certainly leads in one direction... and away from other.

    late 40s better homes and garden.
    smells strongly of soap. could be a soap box, but seems to have long been repurposed.
    maybe a fraternal stronghold?
    the central ornament is curious.
