Anybody recognize this hallmark? It's on an antique 18kt Egyptian Revival micro mosaic suite. To me it looks like a fleur de lis symbol on top of a line, and under the line maybe a fat "T"(?). Anybody? Thanks.

The first symbol looks like the arabic figure 3 but backwards followed by the symbol for zero.

Combination of the French symbol and arabic might indicate Algeria or Tunisia.

It is always best to include pictures of the whole object.

Thanks for responding. Attached are the items in whole. The stamp is on the edge of the top circle on all three pieces.

If these tested at 18K, it is a nicer set for sure. They have great visual appeal, I like them.

Quick question, is the post suggesting these are 100 years old (as in antique?). I could be dead wrong, but they seem newer than that -- maybe 1960s or 70s? Please wait for others to comment as well, in case I'm mistaken.

    Very pretty!

With the bail on the pendant, and the screw-backs on the earrings, I agree with the later date, rather than the earlier date.
Lovely mosaics though! I do love bugs.

Hi, all! These are [supposed to be] 19th century 18k Victorian mourning pieces. The back of the pendant has a hinged glazed window that held some kind of memento like a lock of hair, and the scarab beetles represent rebirth. The bail on the pendant is not part of the suite. It is detachable and was simply added to accommodate some kind of chain. The screwbacks may have been a later modification as they are gold filled. These were appraised by Heritage Auctions here in Dallas. It's the hallmark that puzzles me.

    Then I stand corrected. :)

When "new" they would probably have had wires then (on the earrings).

Yes. In fact, I wonder whether it might be worth having them made back to wires? I keep going back and forth on that one. Some say not to alter and some say it's okay. I intend to resell at some point.

Just because I was bored, I went searching for Victorian earring wires and found these - I think this is what the early wires usually looked like - note that they are rather long compared to what we see today. - http://www.abrandtandson.com/products/victorian-18kt-gold-swan-micro-mosaic-earrings

Then I poked around a bit more and ran across this pendant. Same beetle! This one is only 10K though.

Alas, I have no answer for the hallmark, which is what you are really needing. :(

Wow, great find on that link, Messi!

It was the screw backs that confused me as well. Wonderful this set is older!

I think as far as replacing the backs a 2nd time, hmmm. I would try to find the maker first, and go from there. I'm sure they will be super desirable.

Did Heritage say anything at all about the hallmark?

They didn't even mention the hallmark. It is extremely tiny and well hidden — stamped on a 1mm ring! I almost missed it as well except I was trying to pick apart the condition and was eye-looping for any ding or dent. I've contacted Heritage, but they haven't gotten back yet. Does it look like a fleur-de-lis to you, too?

I wonder if they are French?
If so, it *may* be in here somewhere - but it would be even more important to decipher what the bottom mark is.

Forgot to add that the large mark sure looks like a fleur-de-lis to me.

It does look like an arabic 3 or maybe a lower case r.

Hi, all! Just got word from Heritage. They write:

"I apologize that our catalogers missed that mark when the lot was originally described. I asked one of our specialists if she recognized it, and she said that it could be a papal mark. It does resemble a fleur-de-lis or two shepherd’s hooks crossing. The pieces could have been made in the 1800’s by a member of the clergy. They often created pieces like this for travelers who came to tour Europe, as what we might refer to currently as “tourist jewelry”. I hope this information is helpful."

Key words are "could be." So, I guess I'll see about that. Surely there is a Papal mark registry out there in the big www.
