Flat Face Statue - African? Hawaiian? - Is this made of wood?

    I found this yesterday while picking at a local thrift store.
    Where is this from? What is it called?
    Finally, it looks like wood but feels a little light + where "wood" is cracked it looks like it's white-ish underneath?
    Note: 3rd photo 1/2 way down back of neck it looks like a wooden peg? But last photo chip on chin looks white underneath? How can I tell without hurting it?
    Any help/information would be greatly appreciated!

    It doesnt look like any traditional african carving imo

    Agree. He looks like a piece of ceramic modern art. Or a reproduction of same.
