Featured Finally hit a good one - Sterling silver jackpot

WIth this haul it wasn't find the silver; it was find the plate. Haven't found any yet, although two fancy knives have the old British diamond mark instead silver hallmarks. I went to a sale today and everyone else who went upstairs before me had ignored the silverware cabinet. The estate company researched the art and Wedgwood, but thought the sterling was all plated!!!!!!!!!!! OOPS! The dude hunting Wedgwood urns and a Shelly tea service totally ignored it. He came all the way from New York for those urns.

That said... I found the couple's wedding cake knife complete with the ribbon. Two spoons and a fork with a monogram on the front and kokoshnick Russian imperial marks on the back. A silver candy dish and coctail picks. and then.... silver serving pieces that all matched. Couldn't stuff them into my bag fast enough. One friend got a little silver compote.

When I got my loot to the checkout in the kitchen there was a box on the counter. I could see a fork sticking out. Took a look - two sterling forks and the rest was in silver bags. ohhhhh mmmm ggggggg. How much did they want for the box? Braced for a high number and heard $30. I couldn't say SOLD fast enough! The friend who found the silver dish came in after that but it was too late. I told the girl helping me to my car that you can't buy an Oneida place setting for $30 any more, never mind a whole set.

Got home and weighed the box. Without the serving pieces it bottomed out my mail scale. I'm guessing over 5 POUNDS of silver. Not including the Iittala glass bird. He's on the Finds thread. The lady thingie in the top image is a nail file!

I think your best find may be the bird. It looks like a O. (Oiva) Toikka bird to me. Could be a valuable sleeper. Check for the Siggy!

He's signed Oiva Toikka and marked Nuutajarui or close enough. The only comp I saw was in the $350 range. Not bad for a $5 bird!

Thanks! Went back today at the very end after I got out of church. Spent another $30. Got a pair of Arabia pottery modernist vases for $20. Two different heights.
