Featured Filigree flower brooch, what is this mark

Not sure if I've even got this the right way up and have no idea where to start looking for it. Any clues gratefully received.

 

800 S I suspect. Might be Portuguese.

It could have been made just about anywhere, that is the trouble with filigree. If it isn't assayed or made in a recognizable regional style, it is impossible to say for sure.

I am not seeing Portuguese, that is usually more detailed. Dutch, Norwegian, Indonesian and Indian are also more detailed, so we can strike those of the list too. Only a couple of hundred more to go. But I don't think you should be looking towards Western Europe, S. Asia or SE Asia.

Does it say 8986? 8556? It could be a production code. A good clean could help.

I've just compared this mark with the one on the Malaysian earrings I asked about a few weeks ago and think it's the same mark. it's fainter and less defined than that one is and I didn't make the connection

 

I feel silly now.

 

Please don't, it was difficult to see, and it doesn't look like the usual SE Asian filigree, which is generally more delicate.

I found this one, also Malaysian, with similar 'pulled ovals' filigree (not an official term).
