Figurine in the style of Capodimonte...

Hi, I wondered if anyone can shed a little light on a figurine I have.

It is in the style of a Capodimonte: an elderly man wearing slippers, inspecting his stamp collection with a magnifying glass in his right hand, a stamp in his left hand and surrounded by piles of books and a globe at his right foot. It has the following markings on the base: a three pronged crown, with crossed swords beneath it and MONTE CRISTO beneath the swords. It also has the word FOREIGN on the base and all markings are in black. There is a signature: first name looks a little like Humphrey but isn't legible and the last name begins with a G and ends in S. I have tried to upload pics, but "file to large".

Does anyone know of the porcelain maker or value? I have looked online but have failed to find this particular figurine (though there is a similar philatelist one) and none with these markings. I am pretty much at a dead end! Any input would be appreciated!!

Email the photos to yourself and select medium size when you send. Save them to your device and they should load. That’s how I do it!

    Yay,no stopping you now.
Now wait until someone comes along who can tell you about your figurine. I am not your woman for that!
People are in lots of different time zones so it may take a while for people to see it. :)

The word "Foreign" was often used in Europe on items made by WWI and WWII "enemies" following the wars. Usually found on items imported from Germany, Italy and Japan, in the 40's. So this probably came from Italy.

Ah interesting thank you...and as KSW noted, I guess I will just wait and see if anyone knows more about the value of this particular figurine!

Thanks SBSVC, I looked everywhere online and couldn't find what you have! It doesn't seem as though there is much demand/worth in what is probably a mass produced figurine..but at least I know a little more than I did yesterday!

It doesn't look that way to me, either, but I'm not well versed in collectible porcelain figurines. I don't even know if the "Monte Carlo" stamp on yours represents a company or what.

The only other things I could find with that name & mark were a few similar figurines, but mostly of tramps on benches(!) Prices seemed quite low to me, but I'm certainly not an expert.

Hope you can find the info you need!

Yeah, it's a funny one as anyone selling them is referring to these as Capodimonte and they aren't. I have no idea what the Monte Cristo brand is..but perhaps some expert may stumble upon this thread and be able to tell me more....here's hoping!
