My rich neighbor invited me to pick her basement. Very exciting prospect. In reality she just wanted to clean it out a bit and there was a bunch of junk. Did get 6 bottles of wine, new floor mats from luxury car which I’ll do well on, and some other ehhhh. I didn’t get the Bacarat and Rosenthal/Versace glass unfortunately. I guess she’s keeping that. The painting she gave me. Right away I thought it was factory/corporate type art. I looked at it closer and it actually looks a little better than that to me . Then she told me they bought in Gloucester, MA. I assume from a gallery up there. I guess some “galleries” could fill their walls with cheap factory art and sell it to unsuspecting rubes. Figure it was more likely a local artist though. What do y’all think? It was framed in 98’, I assume it wasn’t painted much before that. I cannot make out the signature. Hoping someone can!
Gloucester, MA......I've been there went whale watching bought a lobster fridge magnet stayed at a motel overlooking the water.... why would anyone... buy anything ....,like this there???? looks like factory art to me....
I think it's a commercial work too. But, as always, a photograph of the back and framer's label would be helpful. Debora
I didn’t think it would in this case as it’s very modern but you’re correct. Reason being is that it was framed locally to Gloucester according to the sticker. That could mean it was a local painter or could mean they disliked the “factory frame” and upgraded. I’m out of town for a while though and don’t have a photo handy.
