I purchase this ladybug / ladybird brooch and took a chance for not a heaping sum of money but no insignificant. Is there anything that sticks out like a sore thumb that would indicate this is a fake? Keep in mind the item is slightly larger than a quarter. What's it made of, what are the stones, is it marked? Are those marks I see on the back of the two feet, bottom right in your back picture?

It does test as gold and the diamonds are all confirmed as real. It has a Carl Faberge makers mark and a 56 zolotnik stamp on the lower legs.

I'd say fake. I hope that's not an old Faberge standard of craftsmanship. I would expect better. Might be the new, cashing-in-on-the-name, stuff. How is that stuff marked?

You've photographed the box upside down so the stamping in the lid can't be seen.

Many old Faberge boxes were Karelian birch. Don't know if that's the case here.

But ask the joolies: does that look like a circa 1900 box?

14K gold mark, single cut stones, milgrain areas are wavy, other areas of metal work are uneven.Doubt few "experts" could say it was real from a photo.

Not commenting on this piece, because I am not overly familiar with the current pieces, BUT the company is once again owned and run by the descendants of Faberge, supposedly using many of the "traditional" designs and techniques.

IOW this may well be "real", just not old.

I don't know if this is the exact same pin the OP purchased, but here is one in the same design on Live Auctioners that states, in the manner of Carl Faberge with pseudo marks. A nice pin in it's own right but would suggest that this isn't Faberge.

Edit: Looking at all the photos, I believe this is the one the OP purchased. Perhaps the question now is whether this could in fact be authentic. Hmmm. The former seller thought not.

Who ever wrote the auction description really didn't look at the piece or was ignorant.
"six articulated legs, set with rose cut diamonds"...the stones are single cut with a table and not rose cut stones.

I searched the Faberge website and did not find this piece (though I doubted it would be there in any case), but I was more interested in finding an illustration of the current marks (I can't remember them), but came up cold there as well. Sorry!

Boy, do they have some nice, pricey trinkets!

Seldom comment on Russian pieces, it is a field filled with an incredible number of fakes (hence the seller's cautious and somewhat vague description, along with no pics of the marks). Would be very surprised if this is an actual Faberge piece, but there's really little point in even speculating without seeing the marks, and only an expert would be qualified to give an accurate opinion...

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Look at the detail in Liveauctioneers pictures.....and the placement of the tag...those are the exact same pictures!!

OOOOOPS!!!! Just went back and saw Lucille's comments!!!!! She got it first!!!!!!!:bag::bag::bag::bag: But former seller still got decent $$ for it.....

From what I've seen of real Fabergé, the execution is flawless.
This brooch is lovely, but for instance the millegrain ridges between the wings are irregular, not what I would expect from real Fabergé.
There are many fakes, and this seems to be one of them. At least the seller was honest about it.
