Hello Everyone - I can find other examples of plates using the F&VI mark but no one seems to know who F&VI was. The other examples are primarily souvenir or character plates like this one. 7 3/4" across. I would guess the age as first quarter of the 20th century. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

F.&V.I. is the abbreviation for Fondeville & Van Iderstine, importers of fine glass and porcelain. These plates were called "Whimsy" plates and were made in England around the turn of the century.
Here is the site this information was on.

If the mark is for Fondeville it looks like it would be prior to 1920. There is mention in a 1920 journal about the name now being A. J Fondeville & Co., 135 Fifth Ave., successors to Fondeville & Van Iderstine. and again in this 1921 journal.

There's a mention in 1906 how the American agency of Frank Beardmore & Co., English art ware manufacturer, was transferred to Fondeville & Van Iderstine. Maybe Beardmore is the one who made the plates?

Then there's this item from 1910:

This is the info I found at
    thepotteries.org:
    F& Van Iderstine
were importers of glass, china and eathernware in New York, USA - they were certainly in business, at least, from 1875 to 1910

    • They were agents for Keller & Guerin - French earthenware and Limoges - French China

    • Also they were agents for English manufacturers - John Sadler and the Stanley Pottery Co, both of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.
