As promised, some photos from my recent visit to the Victoria & Albert Museum. Such a lot of beautiful cameos! They'll be in multiple posts in this thread.

That's a mind blowing museum-both for ancient & modern design.I found one of my old toy race cars there & a chair or two-very inspiring place. We thought we'd do the British Museum and the V&A in one day-not !

That's how much time we spent in the Jewelry Collection. It was clogged w/ folks & humid but we couldn't leave-mesmerizing.The V&A & this forum really woke me up to jewelry.

I would love to go to the V&A one day. Is it feasible to get through it in one day? I saw a TV show on PBS about 1960s era items they were showing. They had all the Carnaby Street fashions which were so awesome. Also, they brought in a car from California of a restored and redone and Huge long finned thing that a guy famous for redoing and decorating cars with pneumatic lifts. They go up and done, very amusing. They couldn't get it in the elevator so they brought in a man who's job is to figure out things like how to fit a large car in a small elevator. They removed all the wall panels and the hand holds, everything down to bare bones and managed to get the car in with less than an inch to spare. I was fascinated. So want to see that museum!

I set aside a whole day for my visit, and felt satisfied that I had seen everything at my leisure. It was wonderful!

EDIT: *seen everything I wanted to see at my leisure.
I visited almost every section of every floor, perusing items sometimes fairly slowly, and other times quite quickly. I remember that I skipped the photography, glass, and furniture sections. I spent the most time in the jewelry and fashion exhibits, as well as sculpture, tapestries, and ironwork. The facility felt fairly busy, but not crowded... surprising for a Sunday in July. I was well-satisfied with my day. :)

Um. Well. I couldn't do it in a day. I've been there four times, and have yet to see more than half.

Of course, one time I did spend an hour in the coffee shop. That was 27 minutes for the barista to figure out how to make an ordinary American cup of coffee with cream and sugar. I drank it slowly so as to seems to appreciate all that effort! :)

Now that is a haul. I'll bet the curator for that lot is a happy chappie.

Interesting to see where your eye takes you, looking at all of them

My eye went to #70 for some reason

I could happily spend a day looking at them

Yum! That branch coral tiara - Amphitrite eat your heart out!

The ones that interest me most are 71-78, 16th century Nuremberg. This is a fairly small selection from the total they hold of this type, thin shell with a backing of something like pitch to create the look of sardonyx.

Also interesting to see #82, portrait of Benedetto Pistrucci, a major name in the glyptics world. Too bad they don't name the author.

I went straight to that tiara too. I bet HRH Victoria would have worn it if she'd had it. My eyes went to #52 because it's rock crystal.
