Very Ash can school in my humble opinion. Id bet 1930s .Have you taken it out of the frame to check for a signature? I love it,very powerful, very evocative.Research the heck out of it,this was no amateur.

Interesting painting. Sure worth researching. I only dont like the frame. Gives it a modern look and the painting is clearly older. I would give it a nice old frame from the same time period and you will see how it will change the painting. Or you must like it off course.

Any marks, measurements or writing on the wooden stretcher? Is the canvas hold together with nails or staples onto the stretcher?

Maybe it's a good idea to list it in the section Art.

I feel like a broken record but I have to ask... Why do you date your painting to the late 19th Century -- 1920 max? And would you post a photograph of the full frame, front/back? (To my eye, it appears contemporary to the work.)

Not expressionist. Like Johnny, I see more ash can school or social realism. Staples to attach canvas to stretchers were very uncommon before the 50s and came in to widespread use in the 60s. The frame may very well be contemporary to the painting.

OK so not staples ... stretcher is unorthodox and appears home made so really no clues there. Style would indicate 30s if period. Frame could be newer.

The framework is supplemented. The oil painting is antique. It is probably later on other stretcher reared.
