"Evelyn" Gold Cut-out Ring

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I bought this little beauty last week at an estate sale. I don't deal in jewelry, but, I swear, I felt sorry for it! It was like a wallflower hiding in a batch of flashy costume jewelry from, I'd guess, the last 20 years or so (lots of Joan Rivers stuff, for example). I offered ten bucks for it and it was mine. I also bought a few miscellaneous old prints (one by Lear) from The Naturalist's Library. I KNOW what to do with those! But --- this ring, not so much.

So... it's unmarked... looks to me to be rose-gold, maybe 10 kt... as you can see, EVELYN is in BIGGGG cutout letters.

If I can find an Evelyn, I might just give it away, but first... I'd like to learn a little about it, to make sure I'm not giving away the find of a life-time (hahaha). Could you folks take a look and tell me the usual... age, value, impressions? Maybe I'll toss it on eBay and see if it can find an Evelyn for itself.

    Thanks and thanks!
    Gila

    It looks home made....bench made.
I'd test the metal before giving it away.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Oh, wow... it's one of my very favorite English names... that's also why I picked it up. Hope it brought back some happy surprise memories. :)

Evelyn is reading a book about 20 feet away from me. :) We used to have a Londoner neighbor named Evelyn too. She was even a Blitz survivor. Definitely get the metal tested; that could easily be gold.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Thank you, I will! The only Evelyn I have known of was Evelyn Ness, wife of the famous American 1930s crime-fighter Eliot Ness. It was forever romanticized in my mind.

Okay, local jeweler says it's gold, more than 10k but much less than 14 kt... but gold. Offered no impression of details. Hmmmm...... so???? Help!

Nice one, you have a gold ring for 10 bucks, how many grams does it weigh ?
    You can`t lose.

The only other Evelyn I know is the fictional Evelyn Harper from Two & Half Men, played by Holland Taylor, who I have just learned bats for the other side.

The name was popular here for a while in the 1920s and 1930s. There are a fair number of Evelyns in their 80s and older. There are also a smaller number under 21, named for Grandma or Great-grandma. Given the dearth of things with Evelyn on them these days, I'm betting the ring would sell if you listed it.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I could always change my name to Evelyn. Once as a kid I told my Mother that if she ever called me Gila again, I would bite her... I didn't sit down for days.
