This little coffee pot is from the Beverly Hills Supper Club which burned 5/28/1977, killing 165 people. From the 1930's until early '60's, besides top notch entertainment, it housed illegal gambling. It was closed for 10 years and reopened, minus gambling, in 1971.

It is backstamped J S S - EPNS - A-1 in diamond. can anyone help with Silver Company and is A-1 a date code.

A1 is not a date code. It's a very common "quality code" for plating thickness.

I don't believe silverplate items generally had date letters/codes...?

    Thanks to both of you!

I did not know that the silver thickness was measured and marked nor did I know that Hotel Silver is not dated.

In British silverplate, Elkington, Walker & Hall, Bradbury & Sons, Mappin & Webb (though not fully researched) and perhaps a couple of others used their own date codes. American firm International Silver used date codes on their hotelware for decades (20th century, last two digits of the year in a square), and both Gorham and Reed & Barton sometimes stamped their date marks on silverplate. Giorgio at silvercollection.it deserves quite a bit of credit for his research and posting the information...

    Thanks Cheryl and SIS !

The reason I was interested in a date was because Beverly Hills, Ky because of the illegal gambling prior to 1960. It changed hands and reopened in 1971 without gambling.

I see British Airways was formed in 1974 which somewhat dates my coffee pot to 1970's.

Maybe JSS is a retailer opposed to a silversmith company. Good to see some companies use date markings.

BA changed their font a bit over the years, shame the photo isn't clearer on that. It's not a teapot.

Suzy (the OP) says her teapot was used at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Kentucky. it does not bear the British Airways name. That it is a separate item unrelated to Suzy's

I think OBB was thinking the British Airways font might help date the similar pot a bit.

I was wondering how Suzy knows where it's from.

Have to ask why you believe this English piece was from the Kentucky-based Beverly Hills Supper Club - a very quick look online doesn't seem to show any of their service ware, casino chips, or advertising with 'BH' in this font (the 'B' is distinctive). The only silverware I saw was flatware, from International Silver with an eccentric modern 'BH', and from Oneida with 'Beverly Hills' in a simple serifed font...

Good point. A British hotel is way more likely.
