I bought three or four pieces of silver at the flea-market this week.

I'm selling the rest. But I'm keeping this as part of my collection:

    Very pretty, Shangas!

This is exactly the kind of find we'd love come shopping for with you!

I had one of these (or very similar) a year or two ago, which I sold.

I saw another one, almost identical to it, about a month back - for $500!!

I decided that if I ever got another really nice bowl, I wasn't selling it.

Shangas, do you have the rest of the I.D. on this gorgeous bowl?

    If not:
img0 (43).jpg was the mark for Walter & John Barnard, London
The date, as you know, is 1894.

There's a bit of info on the history of the company here:

And once again, that bowl is gorgeous!

That's gorgeous. I'm not sure I'd use it to eat rice, especially sushi rice, but it's pretty. Sushi rice has vinegar in it if prepared properly.

I'm not sure about that either - salt and silver don't like each other much. Put the Chinese firewater in the bowl and eat the noodles out of a nice porcelain bowl the sauces won't eat while you're eating the noodles.

I wasn't intending to eat out of it! :p

Well...I might put chocolate in it one day...but that'd be about it.

It had better be GOOD chocolate. M&Ms and Hershey kisses don't qualify.

    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

i have never heard of BAD chocolate .
I would put whatever in, if it tarnishes it then you have a reason to clean it.

Milk chocolate. An adulteration of perfectly good chocolate.
I got a small Christmas present with an order last year, the only Christmas present I got, and it was milk chocolate. I am lactose intolerant, just like only about 90% of the world population. There was I, staring at a small box of 'goodies' beyond my reach. At Christmas....
    Sorry, rant.:rolleyes::sorry:

AJ, I love milk chocolate, but I DO sympathize.

Any ... argggh! I had two presents to unwrap on Christmas morning. A book from my cousin, and measuring cups with cat faces on them. Inaccurate measuring cups. From my mother. Normally I keep a gift for a year before donating it if it's something I can't use. With Mom's consent those went out a lot sooner.
