    Hi all,
I try to find out more about this little rose bowl ( or that is what I think it is ). It is 8 cm high and the bottom is polished and has a lot of wear. Any ideas?
    Thank you very much,

Interesting pretty little thing. Those are cornflowers of the British kind - calendula something ot other, my brain's forgotten.

Thank you Ownedbybear! I forgot to say that it is very likely European, as I found it on this side of the Atlantic.

Over here (in the US) we call them bachelor's buttons. Centaurea cyanus.

Ah, OK. I'd think between the two wars. Might be English, maybe French.

Baker's, the centaurea are different: smaller, more delicate and an annual rather than perennial.

Ah, you're right about the cyanus being an annual, of course. But my Western Garden Book says they can be 2 1/2 feet tall. ;)

And we have a perennial variety, C. montana, that has 3 inch flowers (which I have in my own garden) that is also colloquially called both Cornflower and Bachelor's Button, so that's really what I was thinking of.

Thank you two, between the wars sounds likely, and I learned something about flowers too! :)
