Enameled covered container

    Hi all . Picked up this pretty enameled container.Im hopeless at identifying marks so Im hoping someone can help. Its 7x5 .Im assuming Chinese ,but feel free to correct me. :)
    Its thinner than usual,so Im assuming newer? Any input is always appreciated.

    Regardless of age ,it is very pretty. Some where I read the closer together the metal filaments are the better quality. that one looks pretty detailed.

    Lovely thing. Yes it's Chinese, not sure of the age, but Cantonese enamelware is what I've always known it as.

    Yes, it is called Canton enamel, made for export to the rest of Asia and the West. I can imagine your jar would have been popular in ca 1900 Persia or Turkey.

    The enameling technique was introduced by Jesuit missionaries (just like famille rose), and was always considered by the Chinese as something for foreigners.
    Most of these items were made in Canton (Guangzhou), which was also the main port for foreign traders.

    The mark is upside down:inpain:;) but it could be for Xuan-Tong (Puyi), the last emperor. Those who read Chinese may have to correct me on that.
    I don't know if it is of the period, I'm not sure if Canton enamel manufacture continued since then.

    I think that's period. You can't get that honest wear by faking age.
