Enameled Brass Ball query

Pretty but no idea what this was made for. Raised outlines frame design. Hollow but has some weight. Small hole in one end.

 

Christmas tree ornament?

 

I thought this initially, but it's pretty heavy. Guess it wouldn't have to be hung on a bough through! Very possible!

 

Chinese christmas trees are very strong

What's the size and weight? And is it a threaded hole?

As for weight, not sure. Don't have a scale for that weight range. Maybe as much as two jumbo eggs.

 

A jumbo egg is 2.5 oz.
2 jumbo eggs is 5 oz.

These are sold with a total weight of 5 pounds.
5 pounds = 80 oz.
80 oz./12 balls = 6.67 oz.
And packaging is probably included in that weight, so 2 jumbo eggs seems to be a matching weight

 

My guess is that it is made in India. I'm sticking with the Christmas tree decoration theme though.

 

Here is a similar thingy on eBay. Described as being a finial topper. Not sure what it would be a finial for though.
