Enameled Blue Glass 1

This thing stands 3" tall and measures almost 3 1/4" across the top. What is its purpose and did it have a lid?

 

Kinda looks like a drinking glass that was cut down for some reason.

 

Don't think it was cut down. Looks original

 

Well then, it would be perfect for a few ice cubes and a couple splashes of Johnny Walker Blue!

 

Domed lid with a knop missing, which would have fitted over the jar. One clue is that number on the base: it's a match code.

What would this be called?

 

My guess - candy jar with the lid gone walkabout. It could have been on a vanity as well and held cotton balls or the like.

 

Mary Gregory style. That's become a generic term for that kind of enameling. (This and the other.) Does look old.

Have to say it looks to me as well as if it has been ground down. Odd proportions, even for a piece missing a lid.

 

Unless you are filling it with Sen Sen (does anybody remember Sen Sen?) it seems pretty small for candy!
