At first I didn't think much of this necklace. It's super lightweight and looks home made. Then I saw the tag. Emmons and CE with crown.
I couldn't find anything close to this. Closest I found was one for sale that had a few barrel beads that look just like these--even same color. Rest of necklace was gold tone chain. Listing said they are lucite and that necklace is from 1970s.
    All other

    Any thoughts?
    Thank y'all:)

It says lucite, and: "Listed in the original Caroline Emmons Fashion Magic Jewelry 1977 Fall and Winter catalog."

Yes. I read the description. But my necklace doesn't look like that one...so I guess my question is if my necklace is part of that collection, how can i find out? Are those fashion catalogs still available? I don't find it when i google search--is there another way?

Does it look like lucite & 70s to you? I have read about ways to test it but not sure if thet are safe or will damage it.
    Thx:)

It would be great if you could find it in that book. (Sometimes my library will inter-library loan such a book.) But no guarantee this particular piece is in there, but would sure be fun reading. Better still would be to somehow find the online Fall and Winter catalog that was referenced from 1977.

As far as Lucite or not, wouldn't do any testing to see whether Lucite, and have to say I've never heard of a Lucite test. Maybe the test just rules other things out and could be damaging. In the end I don't think it adds value to the piece to know one way or the other. (If there was a question whether Bakelite, then yes do the Bakelite test.) I think people usually associate Lucite with clear plastic, but since all the other ads for this Emmons line say "Lucite" maybe they know something, if selling you would probably be fine to say "Lucite or another vintage plastic."

It's a cool piece and great you have a date for it. Good start to the research!

Try your local library first. And if they don't have it, they may be able to order it for you. (Many local libraries are part of a state-wide lending system.) That way, you could browse the book for free and then decide whether to invest in a copy.

Lol...i might've been thinking of bakelite. But I do have other necklaces like Monet and Napier that i found VERY similar ones online labeled Lucite but I don't know if I should list mine the same if I don't know how ro verify. What if those sellers just assumed? I guess i can look into books about monet and napier in library as well:)
Just added library to my to-do list!
    Thx:)

I did go back and find a suggested test for lucite...its something about dipping it in hot (but not boiling) water and then checking to see how it smells. No smell is supposed to be lucite.
I don't have a good sense of smell so i need to recruit my hubby or girls for that:)

I know! I'm going to get lots of returns and negative feedback! Lol
I have probably sold many items super under priced because I cannot confirm certain materials or age and don't want customers to think I am a fraudulent seller. But it's ok. I just enjoy finding something new and learning about it:) AND my girls and i have started a nice collection (Yay!)

You need a professional jewellery smeller, like 'the nose' for perfumes or Spanish sherry.:playful:
