This box is about 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches and 3 inches tall, made from wood covered with a thin sheet of embossed silver. I believe it is silver plate, since I can see some brass showing through in spots. The metal is attached with many little tacks, and the box has a working lock.
I have searched all manner of wooden box with embossed silver, repousse silver, silver plate wooden box, etc. I saw many from Japan and other Asian countries, but did not really seen one that looks enough like this to make me think it is of the same origin. The box is kind of clunky, but I like it.
Any thought as to age and origin? Thanks.

This shape cartouche surrounded by floral decoration is seen in northern Sumatra (Indonesia) and parts of neighbouring Malaysia.
The crest on the lid could be a provincial, town or regency crest from either of those countries. Someone with good searching skills may be able to find it.

Otherwise just call it Southeast Asian.;)
