Hi all, I bought this because i thought it was adorable and might be pretty old. has some staining on the top, but overall it is pretty nice.

A vast amount of postcards were printed in Germany. Many may still be.
IF the 13 in the stamp box is the postal rate at the time then this card is circa 1981-85.
    >(the box alone is probably a relatively recent addition)
The font styles may also reveal an age but....I think this is a reproduction card.

*shrug* looks like a typical early 1900's postcard to me. That 13 is probably just saying it's card number 13 in series 742. Or some other type of identification number. It would be much larger and have mention of cents if it were the cost to mail.

Somewhere you should be able to find out when embossed cards like this one were first used. Notice the depressed image on the back? This was of course done to make the front image somewhat 3D.

Thank you all very much. At least now i know it is an antique. Probably not much I can do about the stain?

They were making embossed Christmas/valentine/other holiday type cards in the 1800's.

916bulldogs123, I also think the postcard is adorable and, as we say in these parts, "sweet." ;)

There is only one drawback to an embossed card -- the address on the envelope has to be written before the card is inserted and the envelope sealed which I learned from past experience(s). ;) :shame:

    Hi,
I have in my notes. Divided backs started in 1902 in England. 1904 France 1905 Germany, 1907 USA. If not divided they are older.
