What do I have here? Any ideas of when? Large center pearl has a dip/indentation. Thought I had read something about the outer pearls on here...costume? Cannot see any real marks on the back.

I'm having this trouble with my iphone pics. When you zoom in or enlarge them, they become blurry or fuzzy and details don't show. Looks like the letter "A" in one spot. Be advised that I have found marks on the POST of earrings. That's really annoying.

Thanks Bev, I need better light to look at the posts, about to rain here. Here the backs are, shined up. I thought they were marks, but not seeing any real letters now.

Could not find any marks on the posts, even with a magnifying glass, though my eyes are not too good. Does anyone know what the back mechanism is called here? Like it snaps over onto the front.

Also, my dental work makes the tooth test inconclusive. As best one can see from pics, are the pearls themselves nothing special or imitation (I see 3 different shapes)? I am trying to learn from these. Ready to move on if these are no biggie.

The metal is 100% costume on these and the pearls are too. The look like something straight out of the mid-60s, but a rarity since they're pierced. The way the back folds over onto the fronts is one reason I think they're 60s or 50s. I've never seen it used after that.

I think those are newer. Given quality of materials, finishing, posts and rubber backs. Retro but mimicing earlier styles.

Thanks so much everyone. Learned from this one. Now if I can just resist the urge to buy without seeing marks next time!

I'm late to this thread, but wanted to add that anytime you see earrings or pins/brooches with a metal back that is clipped to another metal disk it's typically inexpensive costume jewelry. You may still be able to buy the disks (one has holes for wiring beads to it) to make your own pins and earrings. Some vintage jewelry made this way can be more desirable/collectable than others depending on the beads used (fancy glass, faceted crystal, etc). Older pieces used brass disks.

Are the beads wired on or held on with the plastic fishing wire type stuff?

Yes, they are. Another lower quality indicator, correct?

It's a sign that they're newer than I'd thought. The fishing line ones can date to the 1980s. Maybe even later.
