Featured Early 19th Century French Bidet

    As a companion to the commode posting, I'm posting this one. It's mahogany, supposed to be from France ca. 1830, and very well constructed. Note how the legs extend up to the bidet's top. Still rock-solid. The porcelain is "creamware."

    As you can see, it doubles as a low table until it's "real" function is needed.

    As an aside, the woman we bought this from used it to display food during dinner parties. Now THAT'S a twisted sense of humor.

    How tall is it ? Are you sure its not a baby bath?

    I'm not close to it at the moment, but it's looooowwwww, like 2 feet, the better to...er....squat over it.

    Its just that the shape throws me. Ive seen baby baths shaped like that,but not a potty. Someone must have had a large tush!

    It's wider on one end than the other, true enough. Anatomically correct, you might say.
