Last year I sold a Clear Ribbon HS Cake Stand. Found another at a recent auction and when I picked it up I immediately knew it was different, the thing weighs a ton! A little over 7 lbs. to be exact. It's the kind of item that when you first pick it up, you need to be careful that your wrist doesn't bend backwards. Everyone who picked it up said "whoa!" So I looked up my old listing and the one I sold last year weighed 2 lbs. less and is smaller. The newer one is a full inch larger in diameter (12 1/4") and an inch higher (9 1/4").

My question is: how many different sizes of cake stands were made in the Clear Ribbon pattern?

Here's what last year's looked like.

Hi all! Yes, I know what the pattern is called. I was just wondering if anyone knew how many different sizes they made in this cake stand. This one is 9" and the one I had last year was 8". There's a photo of another in one of my books that looks like it might be as small as 6", but that could just be the old catalog photo.

sorry Pam, was in a hurry and only looked at pics and figured it was for an ID. The cake stand book only has the 8" size listed; so not sure how many different sizes there were. Tricky part on the non-round stands is where do you measure? It's not unusual for sizes to range from 6"-12" in 1" increments for some patterns, and others only made one size. I'd say that given this is an unknown maker that no one has discovered a catalog that may have listed the different sizes; so it's likely unknown the actual number of different sizes in this one.

I'm surprised that an inch higher and an inch wider brings the weight up from 2 lbs to 7 lbs! Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Don, that makes a lot of sense. I will be listing it soon and just thought it would be nice to know about different sizes. This one is a real giant.

Lucille - the one I sold last year weighed 2 lbs. less than this one. It weighed 5 lbs. and this one weighs 7 lbs.

Oops, misread! Still, sounds like a giant piece at 7lbs. Best of luck with it!
