So I was polishing this piece up for upcoming auction and I am a bit stumped. This piece is stamped DUTCH SILVER and tested around 900. The marks indicate it is plated not sterling. Barbour did a similar stamp with the windmill but the F and J remind me of Friedman? Being stamped DUTCH SILVER likely indicates it is anything other then the style of the piece. Perhaps the plating had strong silver content to test as sterling?
    Anyone recognize the mark? IMG_1609.jpg 63820825707__8F4A9148-5DC2-44FB-9449-16E723A4FB13.jpg IMG_1612.jpg
    Thank you!

You should always be careful with your testing methods when trying to distinguish between solid and plated. Plating is usually done with sterling fineness alloy, but others are certainly possible. A gouge down into the surface would expose the non-silver to the test liquid, but will also often deface the item and reduce value accordingly.

I would assume the mark on this piece is shouting "Plated!"
