Hey guys this locker fell into my hands I waste ting to gather information on it. From what I have found so far is this Durand was merged April 30, 1928 so I am assuming it is at least that old since it doesn't bear the Lyon brand. I can't find a hard estabalishment date or anything other information. I thought this would be a great place to get opinions/leads/additional info. Supposedly it was owned by a gentleman who was in WW2 and worked at West Point himself. I have no validation of this other than it was a cost free situation and I see no reason for the person I received it from to lie. Credible friend imho. Thanks for any replies.

Aside from historical/personal issues... if/when you sell it, I think it would be quite nice for fans of industrial décor, industrial chic, factory chic, and all that. It would be great for a city loft in that style. I like it!

    Could be but....
    Still it's cool!
Maybe the museum there would want it....oh......never mind.....what museum. I was just there and drove around trying to find it from the single sign there but even had I found it, there wasn't a single parking space to be found!!!
I drove around the whole huge place twice and everything had a sign stating you had to have a pass to park in every space...which were all full anyway.. :p

HERE are two Durand Steel Lockers in a 1906 catalog (page 701), to give you an idea of the locker style then and that the company was around then.

EDITED TO ADD: I just saw an add about the merger of Durand and Lyon and it said Durand was established in 1903.

...and THIS 1914 ad lists offices only in Chicago and NY, so I assume your locker is later than 1914.

...and these two links seem to indicate that by 1924-25 they also had offices in Philadelphia, Detroit, and Pittsburgh. Since they merged with the other company in 1928, it seems the locations on your locker plate narrow it to the latter half of the 1920's, no?

I don't plan to sell but is there anyway to estimate a value for knowledge purposes?

If it truly came from west point the 1914 ad wouldn't exclude it since it is in New York correct?

Your locker includes the Durand location in Philadelphia. So it likely would not date earlier than when they opened that location, regardless of where the item was supposed to have been installed.

Bingo sorry wasn't thinking. Awesome so it appears to be narrowed from 1914-1930

Value? I'm guessing here but I think if you put it on Craigslist for $50./local pickup it would still be a tough sell because I think it has a very limited market. I'm involved in military collectibles and I think the only way any additional value would accrue is if you had credible documentation that the locker had been used by a very famous grad while at WP (Patton, Eisenhower, etc.) Even if you could prove it came from WP that would add no value IMO without some famous connection per my example.

Cool. I'm new to this kind of think so I have no clue. Like I said I'm not really interested in selling its a pretty cool garage/man cave piece. Original anyways with a bit of a story

*IF* you could find a very trendy industrial chic shop/boutique (I know of one in downtown Cleveland) I think you might get a ridiculously nice amount. I see foot-lockers and saw-horses and goose-neck lamps and gigantic industrial fans selling for all kinds of unbelievable prices. Other than that bizarre venue, yeah, I'm sure Springfield is right. Springfield, you would have a really good laugh at this hipster place.

    Hi,
There was a restaurant in Philadelphia back in the early 70s. The name was the Astral Plane. They had all of their dishes was Depression Glass. It was all mixed together as to pattern and colors. The breakage was horrendous due to the hot water washing. They would sell pieces right off the table. They had wonderful food and service. I bought a lot of serving pieces for my collection at the time. Crazy places, they used to buy the glassware by the bushel basket, cheap.
