Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Hi! Went digging in the bottom of the cedar closet.....the "stuffit" place for all cloth things most likely never to be used again.....barring summer/winter clothes!!!! Found 3 Quilt tops that look somewhat soiled on the outside, but to me, the colors on the inside, I thought were amazing!!! I'm just showing the three that had the most interest!!!

I'm not sure on this first one how much is machine and how much is hand done.....So far having trouble loading.....Finally got the first one up.....it is approximately 88 inches square... and in the close-up you can see that the appliques are hand applied. Yes, there is SOME staining, but most of it is on the backing....I'm amazed at the brightness of the colors!! There are a couple more, but not as pretty as these 3! Do these patterns have names??? I'm guessing 1800's....maybe 1850's???? Not a clue when or where Mom got them!!!! ANY input MOST gratefully RECEIVED!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Next: The 83 inch square Quilt top below:

And lastly the 93 inch Quilt top Below, which is somewhat out of square as you can see.... those tiny red and yellow squares in the pattern are just about ONE INCH square each and hand stitched as you will see!! At least that's what MY eyes are seeing:

Very nice, I love quilts rather than blankets. Hope someone can help you with the info you need.

NICE! Someone ought to finish those. I make quilts, but nothing that fancy, and most definitely by machine. I also get a 1900-1920s feel about them. There aren't any feed sack fabrics, but I'm not getting a Victorian vibe off them either. That of course is mostly WAG, so someone else may know better.

The first 2 are so similar - and made with at least a couple of the same materials - the red and the green. I vote made by the same person at about the same time.

they remind me of Pennsylvania Dutch flower...& or Hex designs....but less complicated....& I can't say they are as old as you are suggesting...

I was thinking a little later than the OP suggested, but that third one is made of fabric that's a really loose weave. The patterns however go well back into the 19th century for certain.

I don't think they are as old as OP suggests. I'd like to see close ups like the last two of the fabric in all of them.

    Hi,
Or give one to greg. It will give him something to do this winter. He would like to make a backing and stuff it as a real quilt should be.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I hang out with a pile of quilters; fabric addiction is an evil thing. There's a guild local to the OP doubtless who would cheerfully get them out of his hair and finish them off.

OK, so I have 5 more close-ups pertaining to the first two quilt tops, as BevAKATS requested, but since I've used 8 here and the limit is 10.....I'll just start another thread....they are marked....cued to the quilt top numbers here..........
