Dresser ID Info. Rice? Lullabye?

Hi All. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the lullabye furniture brand. I am a but confused id'ing this item. I have a baby dresser that is marked on the back Lullabye but also below that is a stamp that says Rice Leaders of the world association. Is Rice a manufacturer of furniture or a store that Lullabye was affiliated with? I can post a pic of the dresser if that help but I was more interested in any background of the 2 companies and why they would both be stamped on. - Thanks

Rice may be the manufacturer and Lullabye may be the style line.

So it's some kind of group and not a manufacturer per se. I was sort of going in that direction, but SIS was ahead!

While it may be a vacant lot today, the site of the former Lullabye Furniture factory in downtown Stevens Point holds a lot of history.

It all began in the 1890's when Stevens Point resident John Bukolt and his wife had a baby girl who was prone to colic. To help ease her symptoms, Bukolt invented a cradle that could be could be wound and rock by itself. The simple idea quickly blossomed into a major Portage County company.

"He died in 1929 and by that time there were about 160 employees in Stevens Point. They had other plants elsewhere up in Northern Wisconsin." says Tim Siebert of the Portage County Historical Society.

Lullabye Furniture produced about 80 different products from the 1890's through the 1970's. During that time the enlisted the help of a well know celebrity spokeswoman.

"In the 50's they got Lucille Ball to help promote the Lullabye rocking cradle and their other infant furniture. It was extremely well known and considered top of the line." Siebert says.

After the plant closed in the 1970's the site sat vacant, however the City of Stevens Point has some big plans for the property. Once a cleanup project of potentially contaminated soil is completed, a redevelopment is planned.

Interesting. I would have thought this dresser to be much later - like in my lifetime. 50's?
