Found this today. I was going to pay £30 but the shop assistant knocked me down to £20. It's about 25 - 30cm in diameter

Absolute bargain. It’s 1890s and you’ve at least four decorators and assistants marks on it. I can’t quite make them all out.

Funny I should find another lace pattern a couple of weeks after my first encounter with them. I can't believe she knocked herself down on the price. She said that it was £30 and couldn't understand why. I got the impression she thought it was overpriced. Oxfam too. They are usually totally OTT on prices.
So, do decorators marks add value?

Oxfam would have been twice that round my ends.

Certain decorators do add value, like mark Marshall for example.

Ding! Dingding! We get zero Doulton "sewer tile" pieces in these parts; I don't think they exported them. Nice score.

Most Oxfams round here would be too. If they don't know what something is they just stick £20 on it because they can't bear to give a bargain away. Don't know why, this one seems to have some really good deals and it's in a really affluent area too. Theres a Waitrose just round the corner from it!

I bet some of these sewers are lovely looking.

They didn’t need to export, the home market was massive. One of the reasons I love Doulton Lambeth is because my city is built on and of it. I have tube line insulators. Lambeth.

Oh, our old sewers are amazing. The brickwork. If you want to see something utterly astonishing, google Crossness Pumping Station.

There are astonishing pumps still in use. Beam engines.

That's mind-blowing considering what it was used for. The Victorians put so much effort into doing things properly. I wonder what they would make of today's standards? Brunel and co would be crying.

They’d not approve of building regs. Which is particularly resonant at the moment.

The thing I love about their engineering is that it was made to be beautiful as well as functional.

The Ouse Valley Viaduct popped up on my computer the other day. I could not believe how old it was & that it was still in use today.

There are Doulton collectors who specifically collect the Doulton Slaters Patent pieces. I don't like it myself but it should sell at a decent profit.
