If the table had to "double duty" as a foyer/transitional space center table and then as an occasional dining table I would consider it..................better than what I have done with mine as a "center" table

I don't hate the concept but that table looked too good to do that to it. Why not find one with destroyed veneer, poor finish, etc.?

Sort of "gilding the lily" I think.

That's just a shame in my view, unless there is something seriously wrong with it that we can't see. "Up" cycling? Phooey!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I agree, everybody. As a survivor of Mexican Family over-load (6 kids in a small house, autoparts all over the yard, mom and dad running small businesses out of the kitchen and livingroom, respectively), I can't tolerate more than one focal point in a room. If that table was in one of my rooms, there'd be nothing else except a black floor pillow and a bottle of tequila... not even a glass... I'll need the bottle.

    Hi,
I think as an accent piece the table is nice. However the table in the beginning was drop dead gorgeous. As Brad said if the table was worn and in rough shape go for the gold treatment. I really lament the lose of a really nice table. I spent so many years restoring tables that have "tarted" up, I guess I have lived too long.:(:(

:( Oh, dear. It's not that I don't like the gussied-up version -- I do, I do! But...what Brad said, and Greg. My mantra is usually, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Now, I have this table in the garage... :)

I rather like the new design, but wouldn't have done it to such a nice piece of wood. Lily: gilded. Now if he'd done it to a beat up library table from a real library I wouldn't mind as much. The ones in my local library could do with a fancy paint job.

That table as it stands now would not be in my house anywhere but . . .

I think one of the "problems" is with the table's presentation -- i.e. photographed in front of that "fussy" wall (and yes, I think even linear geometric decoration on a wall can qualify as "fussy").

One thing I am still considering, but won't achieve, is buying a contemporary style home. When there are such as husband and wife, it's really the wife who wins. Fair, because she is, comparatively, there 24/7/365 and he's there to sleep, eat, enjoy his family and company.

BUT, if I do get there, and happen to have a table as shown on the left, I WOULD NOT ONLY MAKE IT INTO THE ONE ON THE RIGHT, BUT I'D HIRE THE GUY TO HELP WITH THE REST OF THE HOUSE.

I love that table, but totally agree that its surrounding decor is way too cluttered.

And the floor should be 12x12 ceramic tiles.

Yes to all of the above.

Indeed it is a nice table....but for me, I just couldn't see sitting around it , playing cards, or having dinner, or drawing with the kids, or helping them with homework, or researching on my lap top, or even opening the snail mail......it would just be to much, too distracting & hurt my eyes.......& if something fell off the table onto the floor.......bending down to pick it up would blind me !!!!
