businessman1.jpg Seems like maybe a famous business person or maybe a portrait for an office showing the founders/management? It is 17" by 10".

Could be any respectable middle class man in his time. Anything on the back? Have you deframed it?

Nothing except the framed by sticker from a Baltimore framer. I have not deframed it yet. The integrity of the paper looks like it was never deframed but perhaps there is something on the back of the photo that identifies who it is.

Knowing who framed it may very well assist in figuring out about when this person was on earth. Please post a picture of the framer's label.

Yes, as above. Important information that we would have appreciated having in your first post.

Interesting - in 1953 Hochshild, Kohn was a men's clothing store which placed an ad in the University of Maryland Pharmacy School yearbook.

Your rather dapper man may have been one of the principals in the firm.

So framed in a department store. The logo evolved over time but I can find it in use in 1912. The logo below was in use in 1902.

And still in use in 1929. That's about right with photograph and frame.

I agree. Max died in 1957 two weeks before is 102 birthday! He announced his desire to retire in 1927, according to his obituary. His 2 partners both died soon thereafter. But the store survived.

He and his wife had 2 daughters, so this man may be a son-in-law or some other relative

Could be his son-in-law Albert D. Hutzler, who was also working in the store in 1930. His other son-in-law was a doctor.

He's quite nattily dressed. Could well be associated with the department store. A floorwalker, perhaps. High collar + bow tie. 1920s-ish I'd think.
