    Hi everyone
Can someone please help me identify the stamp on this piece. I found it amongst my Grandmother's costume jewellery. It's a piece I am beginning to love to hate. It's incredibly sharp and has stabbed me a few times !!:shifty: Obviously needs a good clean. It's approx 5 inches long.
    Thanks so much.

I'd agree on 900 silver. It does indeed need a decent clean: I start with white vinegar or an ultrasound bath to get crud off. Then a Sunshine.

Most likely Colombian, the '0900' mark is typical, as is the form, they often have a raw emerald in the center. Years ago, one of the ladies from the local Orchid Society would buy pretty much any decent silver orchid brooch from me for prizes...

    Thanks everyone
My grandparents lived in South America so very possibly Columbian.
I'll clean it up and see if there are any other clues

Oh and @Ownedbybear thanks for the cleaning tip. My sunshine cloths have now arrived  I'll try the white vinegar first.

I'm a great believer in cheap vinegar. ;) Not on pearls, opals or anything foiled, but it's a great crud remover on most other things. And anti bacterial, if that's a worry.

How do you clean pearls? I'm always concerned about damaging them :watching:

The general jeweller's advise is just to wipe with a soft cloth.
Philistine AJ:eek: does use soft soap and water if they are dirty, a short rub between the hands, no soaking. Pearls are made up of layers, and water can get in between the layers.

    (apology to the Philistines)

I'm with AJ. I've used a very soft cloth wrung out in water with a drop of Fairy in it. Needs care, because the thread can get very fragile if wet. I've used an ultrasonic on pearl set rings but only with a very special solution, the general ones are too harsh. NO need to use SUnshine cloths on pearl necklaces: Just wear them next to bare skin for a couple of hours.
