I hope when I'm 125 I still look as good as he does.

He is about 4 3/4" high by 2 " at the base.

I wonder what age/country and what technique is used.

    Thanks for any help! dignifiedasianman1.jpg dignifiedasianman2.jpg dignifiedasianman3.jpg

Almost certainly not Japanese...a Chinese courtier or other Imperial official.

Your figurine is Chinese, probably porcelain, and would have been made using a molding process - clay pressed into piece molds and then assembled. The small vent hole in the bottom is characteristic of older figurines (19th-early 20th century), as compared to Republic period figures with larger holes, or the open bases of slip cast ware. Each figure would be hand painted before firing. I believe the colors used in yours could be described as "famille rose".

It probably depicts Zhang Guolao, one of the 8 Immortals. His attribute is a bamboo tube drum, and he is usually shown as an old man.

I should make a correction - he might be a lower fired stoneware rather than porcelain.

Some of the Asian experts might be able to say more, or identify errors in what I have suggested.

Probably Canton ware, and as 2many said, Daoist Immortal Zhang Guolao.
The Famille terms are not usually applied to this type of ware, but if you were to call it by a Famille name, it would be Famille Jaune, since yellow is the dominant colour.:)

Not griping, but my sense of humor has received a very high appraisal at Sotheby's.
