I picked this up at the flea market this morning for a buck. It seems to be clay or pottery?? Anyone familiar with the marking on the bottom? Looks to be HV then S followed by c inside a circle and the last line is 85.
    Any help would be awesome.

I love the dolphin, but I don't see any tribal connection, Inuit or otherwise.
C in a circle looks like the copyright symbol to me. Made by a person or company with initials HVS, or HV for company S, in 1985 ('85).
Maybe one for the ceramics people?

Kevin, can you still change the title to include 'ceramic dolphin, HVS copyright '85'? You will be more likely to get the right eyes on it.
The way it is now people who don't know Inuit art won't look, even though they might know who made your dolphin.

    Thank you AJ.
It was with a soapstone carving that I also picked up. I guess since they were together it felt like there may be a connection. Wishful thinking on my part. I will have to get a thread started on the soapstone one and maybe the moderator will move this one up to pottery and glass where it may get identified.

I'd have bought that too, whether I needed it or not. Just don't let the cat play with it; it looks like a good spinny toy, if you're a cat.

Canadian Inuit are not Alaskan Eskimos....& do not carve dolphins.

    but to answer the question...
Did Inuit do Clay carvings also?

Yes.... in a way....in two separate periods.
