Determining the Age of My Antique Trunk

I am refinishing an antique trunk and am looking for feedback on just how old it might be. This trunk was bought in Canada but I do not know its origin. Unfortunately, most of the original hardware (front lock and top straps) has been removed.

Indicators of age are listed below:

    a) square head nails

    b) hand crafted screws

    c) hand carved dovetails

    d) hand carved top edge ornamental

    e) not individual boards – side and top are full panels

Any feedback on the age and style of this trunk would be appreciated.

    Thank you ... Gary[IMG]

Typical personal storage or immigrants trunk circa 1850. Wood looks to be pine. Not enough details on this to determine origin. Molding at the bottom may be an addition.

Brad, thank you for your input. I did in fact respond yesterday but my feedback does not show up and I am not sure why.

As happened above I responded yesterday but my feedback did not get posted.

The trunk is 36" long and 17 ½" wide and 18 ½" tall. Thanks for your feedback.

Rachel, my trunk had been robbed of all of it original hardware. Very disheartening indeed. But I did get some awesome feedback from an expert about the age of my trunk. My email address is Edited and if you share your email address with me, I will send you the expert feedback that I received. ... Gary

@GAF You really shouldn't post your personal email on an open forum. . .just sayin'. You can send a personal message to Rtraxler thru the 'inbox' feature in the upper right.

I'm going to ask the moderators to remove your email. @Bookahtoo @daveydempsey

That's unfortunate, hardware often helps in getting a bit more specific on age.
Agrees with Brad, Blanket chest (because of till), mid to late 19th century, pine, probably paint-decorated originally.

I am not sure why but, was referring to the almost obsessive custom here about who you are, what part of the world you are located, your contact info, Bla Bla Bla.
    It's WEIRD!
I bother no one in this world and expect the same of others, for the few that have sinister intentions be advised I am armed, COME GET SOME!
I don't wear dust masks, participate in lockdowns or engage in any other medieval superstitions......
