This is a really nice tea set. It may or may not be developing bubbles on the lid of the teapot, and I HATE polishing silver and silverplate, and I only got the teapot partway done. I was afraid to try and sell the set in case the black dots on the lid are something worse than tarnish. The pieces have no dents that I can see. For those of you who like silver plate, and like to polish it, this is for you! Hmmmmm ...... I think it shall go to whoever comes up with the best story of what they're going to do with it. I don't care if you sell it, and I don't care if the story is true. I think it will go in a large flat rate box, which is $17.45 these days. The high cost of shipping is one of the reasons I hesitated to offer this but I thought maybe someone would want it. If it costs less, I'll of course refund your $$.
The teapot will be rubbed and rubbed until the Genie appears. What ever you are using to polish with is scratching the silver. T shirt material is not good. I like old lycra stretch really old and soft. I might be tempted if no one else is interested. It's just that I have so much other stuff I should really take care of first.
Oh, to possess such a lovely tea service! First I would find pride of place amongst my other six services so this delightfully serene set could shine proudly but with proper modesty! Then I would order the best tea possible – surely Fortnum & Mason can supply a worthy blend? After setting some cream to clot I would bake off a batch of the most tender scones and uncap the last jar of raspberry preserves…………..polish the spoons, dust off the Rosenthal cups, search out Grandma’s Battenberg lace serviettes, lookup some tall, virgin white candles and arrange a bowl of violets for the center………………..invite the attractive ex-pat Nanny from down the street in for an afternoon of proper tea au deux. But you had better ship it in a LARGE carton – because THAT is what I will be living in if I spend that sort of money! Landladies do NOT understand the importance of a nice tea…………………..especially when put up against the monthly rent…… So on second consideration, you’d better NOT put me in the running………………………sob…………….
Considering it's age, it looks to be in wonderful condition. I, too, think it's a lovely set and any flaws just add to it's character. If only it could tell a story......all the people it has served...etc. Like Mansons, I have more sets than I can use but want to say how generous of you, Book. I hope it goes to someone who will use it and appreciate it.
I think its lovely and I love the squat design. I also have many sets or I would jump on it in a heart beat. I like the Greek keys as well.
I was reading Mansons post and came to a juddering mental stop on this phrase: look up some tall, virgin Till the speculation stopped and the eye moved on to white candles
and if not for the edit feature, who knows if "white candles" would have made in into the posting................
Poor little set! You can put me in the hat -- I've been looking for a teapot that is really teapot-shaped for several years. (And I think...that somewhere...I may have a pair of cups and saucers with the Greek key design.
Manson's comfort your imaginings with this: while indeed it may be possible to create a very good cream tea here, is is NOT possible to make the perfect one. When I first wnet to England, I was told not to have a cream tea until I was in Devon. (And as you described, right down to the violets it was!) And also, to not have a pasty until I was in Cornwall. Also excellent advice. Quite tolerable substitutes can be found, but the real thing is...is...Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Sort of like there is nothing wrong with Pizza Hut Pizza if you've never had one from Sally's or Frank Pepe's.
Silverthwait - the set is yours. If you'll message me your information I'll pack it up and get it off to you. May you give it the care and polishing it deserves!
