How this Seller described the item:

An superb Art Deco geometric captive top sterling hip flask decorated with all over engine turning. Manufactured by British silversmith S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd circa 1934. Excellent condition.
    • Sterling silver (.925)
    • Hinged captive top closure
    • Geometric shape
    • Engine turned pattern
    • Chester assay date mark circa 1934
    • Made in England
    • Impressed S.B.S. Ltd hallmark
How normal people would describe it:

A super Art Deco sterling silver flask. Designed with a really cool geometric pattern that looks like an engine turning! Maker is S. Blanckensee & Son who did business in England about 1934. Excellent condition with no dings or dents. Comes to you already polished. Just exquisite! (The bullet points they added are for folks who don't read sentences.)

Their description and white background photos instead of a background of a regular table or someone's sofa increased the price considerably. @komokwa What do you think it's really worth? And please feel free to add some value over the melt weight for the coolness factor and for them polishing it.

Checked ebay and found that the average price for a sterling hip flask of this period is about $400. Use of the word Superb raises the price another $200-$400. Most of the flasks on eb are either not polished or half-ass polished and several have been monogrammed. Certainly none I saw were Engine Turned. Still $2945 seems a little steep to me. I guess that one would be purchased by someone who thinks they are worth it.

Well, mines got a little more pizzaz , and I'd think that either , thinking , hoping wishing... would be able to fetch $ 475 US......or so.

No one is getting this for melt weight...unless I'm in the ground !!

Oh yes! Yours is so much better than the one on-line for $2945! You would have to sell it in a more retail oriented setting perhaps than ebay. But I would think you could easily get $475 without even breaking a sweat. Maybe $1000+ if you work on it. You know, create a snob factor by talking about engine turned decoration, how superb it is, that kind of thing. The flask is sensational, but not everybody wants one. I don't, but wish I did.

I think whoever is pricing the Antiques & Vintage section is smokin' something.
