I love Gothic horror novels, so I couldn't resist snatching up this old painting at a thrift store. Whenever I stare at it, I feel like it's part of a Lovecraft story or something. It's signed R. Pontillo (Or Portillo). The brushstrokes are sharper and colors are more vivid in person. 20170806_170105.jpg My mom thinks it's an eyesore, but I really like it. What do you think?

I think it may be a factory painting from México.

It seems like an odd subject for a factory painting. I don't think anyone would want to buy it.

Evocative of the Old West and not an uncommon sight here.

It could be a "resort" artist. Back in the 60's & 70's there were artists that went to resorts in areas like the Poconos and the Catskills. Some just sold their work, others would run work shops for the guests so they could create their own and also buy something from the artist. Your painting is a very typical scene for those types of paintings.

I like the fact it is on a lake as that sure looks like a minuscule light house tower with a seagull flying by and the blue waters in the background, and a rotted out silo on the right side.
Maybe somewhere like lake Superior or Michigan? Just a thought, But I like it!!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This subject (not necessarily style) looks very much like a painting we were writing about a few months ago. Not sure whether I can find it here.

... Never mind... I think I was thinking of this one:

And I had done a lot of searching that came up with similar paintings, some of which had an oil derrick or windmill instead of the plant on the left. Must have been a popular composition?
