Recently pick up this pair of reading glasses. I doubt they are worth much but I would love to know how old they are. The saddle style bridge makes me think they are early 20th century, maybe 1920s? I am not really sure. You can tell from the pictures that the outside of the case used to be encased with black leather. The fact that it is nearly all gone makes me thing it is pretty old (or just in rough condition)

Honestly i guess i just assumed they were reading glasses. The lenses dont seem to magnify much though.

Try looking on the nosepiece. Sometimes company's engrave their name on the bridge! That could help in dating them.

These would be turn of the century. Late Victorian or Edwardian, possibly up to the 10s/20s. I don't think they'd be any later than that.

Yeah they look early 20th century at the latest. Probably 20s or 30s at the latest.

My guess is that they're made of gold-filled brass, which I think was very common in those days.

Check carefully for marks. I bought a few pairs several years ago and one was solid gold.

The plot thickens! I searched for a while on the bridge for any marks but to no avail. Finally i actually find some marks right on the brake line where one of the temple wires broke. looks like I + K, not sure what that means but here is a pic. marks.jpg

I think it's a 4 that was partially cut off when stamped. Even if they can't be fixed, the scrap weight should be decent.

It would be a shame to scrap those. It's not often you find spectacles made of precious metals.

That's fantastic! I thought the marks might be 14k but i didn't want to get ahead of myself. Definitely not scrapping them. These are my first good find. Best $5.00 I ever spent! Thank you everyone!
